WHAT IS MAT PILATES?
Mat pilates focuses on building core strength, flexibility, and overall body awareness. This class is a great introduction into the world of pilates and is approachable for all fitness levels. Mat pilates is great for members looking to improve strength, tone, and flexibility through controlled, flowing movements. The exercises target the core which is the whole center of your body, not just abdominals (often referred to as the “powerhouse”) but also engage other muscles, creating a full-body workout.

WHAT IS BARRE?
Barre fitness classes take elements from ballet, pilates, yoga and strength training. Barre classes use a variety of equipment, such as small weights, resistance bands, sliders, bosu balls and yoga mats but most importantly a balance barre. Throughout a class, you will focus on major muscle groups including arms, legs, glutes, and core by doing small targeted movements in high repetitions with either light weight or resistance. You will most definitely hear your instructor say “AND PULSE!” throughout the class! In addition to strength training, barre classes also help to improve stability and flexibility.
